In this version, Hillalum and his crew are digging through the Vault of Heaven in order to find Yahweh’s creations. The first story in the collection, “Tower of Babylon,” is a reinterpretation of the Biblical story about building a tower to reach Heaven. One story from this collection inspired the 2016 film Arrival. The author has received four Nebula Awards, four Hugos, four Locus Awards, and multiple James Tiptree Jr. It includes his first seven works, six of which were previously published before the book was released in 2002.
The collection is a compilation of eight short stories and novellas by Ted Chiang.
